The Efficiency of Training Methods and Techniques Used in Vocational Training at Swaziland Skills Centres
Abstract
The broad aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of training methods used at Swaziland Skills Centres. The specific objectives of the study were to investigate the training methods used and to find out if they were relevant to the content and training materials available. Furthermore, it was to find out if instructor qualification in education determines the training methods and techniques used. A survey using self-administered questionnaires was conducted. The findings of the study revealed that 61% of the instructors surveyed had a qualification in education while 39% did not. Instructors with the education qualification used training methods appropriately. It was found that entry levels into the programme enabled trainees to understand the content and the training materials were relevant to the training methods used though inadequate. The study further revealed that the training provided lacked courses in business management and that trainees did not receive enough exposure to industries before the graduate. It was recommended that the programme be reviewed to capture new developments in order to improve the efficiency of training methods and techniques used in vocational training in Swaziland Skills Centres.Published
